38. DYO Art Awards Meeting their Owners

 The 38th Dyo Art Awards contest organized by Yaşar Education and Culture Foundation was held with the theme “Balance and Change”. As the result of the evaluation made by the selection committee after the pre-selection process, 3 art works were deemed worthy of receiving the awards, while 27 art works were deemed worthy to be exhibited. In the painture branch, Engin Konuklu's art work "Avşa", İrfan Dönmez's "“Bu ‘ben’im” ("It is Me") and in the authentic print branch, Hava Küçüköner's “Sarı Bir Gün” ("A Yellow Day") were awarded with the prizes at the 38th DYO Art Awards.

Feyhan Yaşar, Vice Chairman of Yaşar Education and Culture Foundation Executive Board, stated "As Yaşar Group, we have been contributing to the development of the society by investing in the fields of education, culture, art and sports for more than 60 years."

DYO Art Awards event, being one of the most important examples of the support given to art by Turkey's private sector from past till today and playing a major role in the development of Turkish Painting Art, was held for the 38th time. The competition, organized with the theme of “Balance and Change”, was attended by 944 artists with 1585 art works. In the 38th DYO Art Awards contest, where the applications were admitted over the Yaşar Education and Culture Foundation website, the selection committee determined the award-winning art works and the ones worthy of being exhibited with the final selection made after the pre-selection.  

The selection committee, formed by esteemed persons from the world of art, education and press, namely Prof. Hayri Esmer, Prof. Fevzi Karakoç, Dr. Nazan Ölçer, Denizhan Özer, Prof. Dr. Burcu Pelvanoglu, Prof. Mümtaz Sağlam and İhsan Yılmaz, considered 3 art works worthy of receiving awards and 27 art works worthy of being exhibited. In the painture branch, Engin Konuklu's art work "Avşa", İrfan Dönmez's "“Bu ‘ben’im” ("It is Me") and in the authentic print branch, Hava Küçüköner's “Sarı Bir Gün” ("A Yellow Day") were awarded with the prizes at the 38th DYO Art Awards. The artists who received their awards in the category of painture received 25,000 Turkish lira as the prize and the authentic printing artist was entitled to receive the Success Prize in the amount of 10,000 Turkish lira. 

Stating that they have supported the development of society for more than 60 years in the fields of education, culture, art and sports, Feyhan Yaşar, Vice Chairman of Yaşar Education and Culture Foundation Executive Board, expressed that the 38th DYO Art Awards Event was successfully held and added, "DYO Art Awards Event has been organized continuously since 1967. We are pleased and take pride in having organized the 38th DYO Art Awards contest this year, which is deemed as the first long-term art contest organized by the private sector.  This year, a record number of artists with their unique art works participated in our contest, which is known as introducing many number of artists and art works to the Turkish painting art. We are very please with the interest shown in and support given by the art community to DYO Art Awards. I would like to express my gratitude to all the artists participating in the 38th DYO Art Awards contest and hereby congratulate the award-winning artists. Due to the spread of Covid-19 in our country, we had to postpone our award ceremony, planned to be held at the beginning of April and decided to organize this event in days of health. Our wish is to see healthy days filled with joy of art in the shortest time possible”.

Dyo Art Awards, since 1967 ...

DYO Art Awards, first started in İzmir and only addressed to the artists within the Aegean Region, have been started to be held to cover the artists across Turkey since 1973 and in 1999, it was started to be qualified as an international contest. During the period of 53 years, that is since 1967, the contest has been organized continuously with the participation of 15,384 artists and 25,799 art works. While 208 art works received awards, 2,927 art works were deemed worthy to be exhibited. 

Besides the exhibitions organized by the state, DYO Art Awards have hosted the art works of many esteemed artists who made their names in the Turkish Painting Art, namely Adnan Çoker, Mustafa Pilevneli, Adem Genç, Zahit Büyükişleyen, Mustafa Ayaz, Kadir Ata, Bünyamin Özgültekin, Alaattin Aksoy, Cavit Atmaca, Cuma Ocaklı, Devrim Erbil, Ekrem Kahraman, Yalçın Gökçebağ and Mehmet Güler and it is deemed as an art event where artists of young generation participate to a large extent, has become more significant in terms of both its participants and the attributes of the art works applying to be awarded during the event. Today, the competition has become a platform where national and international current developments, new trends and researches in the field of painting art are evaluated as well as esteemed names are introduced to the art of painting.
